Analytical packages – Food and Feed
In 2020 introduced a new method for PFAS in food with leading reporting limits (LOQ). Since then we have investigated occurrence in various foods, e.g. fish, shellfish and baby food. We also carried out the highly noted study of crayfish for the test institute Testfakta, which showed that Swedish crayfish can exceed EU maximum levels. Our own analyzes have shown that freshwater fish and fish from the Baltic Sea (salmon) can have concentrations limiting their use for baby food according to the new rules. Another aspect is that PFAS4 is only a part of all PFAS that can be determined, and the fraction of PFAS4 can vary widely between 0-100%. For fish, PFAS often make up less than 50% and apart from PFAS4, bioaccumulating long PFAS (C10-C14) can be important. Furthermore, levels of precursors such as PFOSA should not be overlooked in some samples. A wider scope is also recommended for the ongoing EU screening ((EU) 2022/1431, see “PFAS legislation”)
Eurofins can analyse more than 40 PFAS in food and feed. This includes "regular" sulfonates/carbonates, telomeres etc and a number of so-called PreFOS (PFOS precursors). In addition, "novel" PFAS such as GenX, (A)DONA, F-53B and PFECHS can be offered. The range covers EU PFAS4, DK22 and a large screening pack. The delivery times (TAT) is 14 cal days.
PFAS in Food and Feed – Packages
Also for food and feed we have packs that can be used both for compliance testing and bigger ones that can be of interest when studying a wider range of substances. Accreditation covers nearly 40 PFAS for the matrices fish, shellfish, fish liver, meat and egg. Liver and offal are accredited for around 30 substances. Five PreFOS (PFOS precursors) are accredited for fish only. Non-edible plant material like grass, silage, wood, needles, leaves etc have their own packs (see below). Typically, a sample preparation such as mixing and homogenization will be added. If you cannot submit 10g of sample, please contact us for further discussion. As for water customized packages can be set up for bigger or recurring monitoring. For foodstuffs not delivered already packed we would prefer that you use our 240 ml PP food container which has been tested for contamination. For more information on sample preparation and a brief overview of sampling, see our flyer.
