Eurofins foundation supports PFAS research at Örebro University
The foundation was established in connection with the group's 30th anniversary in 2017 to bring together Eurofins's long-term philanthropic work based on the company's vision of being able to contribute to global health and safety as well as environmental protection. The foundation has now given a research grant to Örebro University (SE) with the title “Development of a photocatalysis method for oxidative conversion of unknown PFAS into measurable species for assessment of total PFAS in food and environmental samples including drinking water”.
The research is to be carried out at the MTM (Man-Technology-Environment) research center at Örebro University. Besides the university, the project will be actively supported by development work at the European PFAS competence centre within Eurofins, located at the Lidköping (SE) site. Eurofins has a long-standing collaboration with the MTM centre not at least in the field of PFAS and this new project will further strengthen the liasons.
The funding is to be used to further develop and test oxidative methods to "make visible" so-called precursors that are not usually covered in standard analyses. Focus is on challenging matrices that are difficult to oxidizise. The research is led by Assoc Prof Leo Yeung at MTM.
