Extension and new “combo” packages for TOP in water and soil

Sidebar Image

TOP (total oxidizable precursors) is a method that can be used to “reveal” PFAS precursors. Precursors are PFAS compounds, known or unknown, that may degrade into, typically, perfluorinated sulphonates (PFSA) and carboxylic acids (PFCA) as final products. When applying TOP, precursors are chemically oxidized into PFCAs. The concentrations and pattern of PFCAs formed will give both quantitative and qualitative information of what precursors that were present in the sample. Eurofins has offered the method since 2017. We are now extending some of our packs for water and soil/sediment to include all 20 PFAS that are part of the EU drinking water directive (DWD; (EU) 2020/2184) as well as the Swedish (6:2 FTS) and Danish (6:2 FTS + PFOSA) additions. The extended TOP packages will then match the regular “non-oxidized” PFAS28 and 35 packages (see table). The additions will not imply any changes to price, delivery time (TAT), sample amount etc.

Matrix PFAS range TOP code Additions TOP Regular PFAS code
Water PFAS28 PLWHM PFPeS, PFNS, PFDoS, PFTrDS, PFUnDS, PFTrDA PLWFK (clean)
PLW9M (unclean)
PFAS35 PLWLU PFPeS, PFNS, PFDoS, PFTrDS, PFUnDS PLWAF (clean)
PLWXZ (unclean)
Soil/sediment PFAS28 PLWNM PFPeS, PFNS, PFDoS, PFTrDS, PFUnDS PFTrDA PLW6Q (soil)
PLWBC (sediment)
PFAS35 PLWRI PFPeS, PFNS, PFDoS, PFTrDS, PFUnDS PLWN0 (soil)
PLWBE (sediment)

Besides the additions to existing packages we will also introduce new “combo” packs containing both the regular (non-oxidized/pre-TOP) and the TOP (oxidized) compounds.
